Wakefield Civic Center

The Wakefield Community Center is a multi-use center approximately 12,000 square feet.  The facility includes an event hall with an adjacent kitchen space, large and small conference/meeting rooms, and a senior center space. The project is was envisioned to provide a space for a number of different size events for different uses at the same time.

The project included gutting and renovating an existing former-funeral home and a roughly equally large addition. One of the challenges was in creating a form that worked with the existing hipped roof structure, in the end a mirrored approach was utilized, in some ways resembling the metal pair of ag buildings across the street. The metal exterior allowed for a low-maintenance surface and the large satin-glazed window systems allowed for diffuse daylight to enter the space.
